Oioi.

How's it going?

So, I got a job.
So far, I hate it.
Not for anything major of course. Just the little things. The little passive aggressive things that I really can't stand. This is what I imagine they call a 'learning curve'. Y'know, how people actually have to deal with real life.
Here are a few things that have pissed me off so far:

  • Clocks. There isn't an accurate one. My computer is half an hour fast. The clock on the wall is 5 minutes slow. There is no way of knowing what time zone my desk phone is in, but it sure as hell aint any one near here.
  • Computer systems. I have a Town1 computer and a Town2 computer, plugged into one screen. I have cases from both towns. The computers have to be switched on in a certain order to ensure that the mouse can be used on both computers. Except that's a lie, because sometimes the mouse won't work regardless. To make the mouse work on the computer not working, you have to shut down both computers and turn on the one you want the mouse on first.
  • Computer systems pt 2. E-mail only works on one computer. Because the two computers are two different computers, you can't copy and paste between them. Lots of retyping emails.
  • "Just so you know, you're not supposed to use your mobile in working hours" Oh really? That thought never entered my head. Thank you for pointing that out to me. I will bear that in mind the next time you start texting someone. Or the next time your alarm goes off [although, to be fair, it isn't your alarm, it's your husband's. And it goes off every Tuesday and Thursday. And you don't know how to turn it off. And it seems that you don't actually want to, because I offered to do it for you.] Ps. the only reason I'm looking at my phone is because I now have 5 minutes of dead time whilst waiting for the computer(s) to restart.
  • Cups. Apparently it is impossible for adult women to drink out of anything other than their cup. But the same adult women will not notify you beforehand of the appropriate cup ownership, oh no. Remake the tea.
  • "File the post" does not mean "put away". It means "get the file out that relates to this post"
  • It is not okay to say that someone is "busy" with another client. You have to specify that they are "speaking" with another client instead, because, y'know, being busy is bad.
  • If possible, you should not tell a client that they will be called back. You should keep them on hold. Or get them to call back. Because then they have to pay for the phone call.
Le sigh.
I really don't think I'm going to be able to stick it for very long. I know. I'm pathetic.

Nothing much else is happening at the moment. I'm probably about to start another descent into feeling isolated. Not that I don't usually, but in the way that makes me feel bad. I just.. I dunno.. feel like I need to get away and turn the music up.

Well.

That football match was epic.
I really don't get the fuss about the reffing though. It's been mostly terrible throughout the tournament. The match I saw was shocking. The semi was actually good in comparison. And I think it pretty much evened out. I mean, c'mon, that head stomp got nothing.

Anyhow. The horse stuff was also gripping. Both sj and dressage. I never thought I'd be made nervous by a dressage comp. Typical olympics I suppose. The individuals should be less gripping. I hope.

Sigh. I feel bored. I suppose because I was away for a week, and now I'm back to my sofa. I am beginning to worry that I will somehow merge into it. I really need a job.

Maybe I can fill out more applications during the individual sj.

I'm so emotionally drained right now.

Yo.
Home again home again jiggity jig.

Well, my traditional north east olympic adventure was a lot of fun. FWL and I got really into the football match, much to the confusion of the American couple in front of us. It was AWESOME. Like, the team were right there. And there were some mad skillz on display. NZ put up a really good fight, and their fans were a lot of fun. Typical kiwis.

Sport really does have a funny affect on me. Like, when I get really into it, I can't actually watch. It's as if my watching will stop the person I'm rooting for winning. Case in point, when I watched the USA FR game, USA were 2-0 down. When I went away, they went 4-2 up.
Yeah, it's ridiculous, but still.

I wish I was sportier. I also wish I didn't give up on things so easily. The two are probably very related. Maybe I'll take up a new sport............ Who am I kidding. No I won't.

Other activities undertaken included sushi [There is something funky about the texture of raw fish. Not A Fan. Maki rolls are great though.], building bears and Alnwick castle.

I really want a castle.

I wonder if castles ever get sold cheaply. I'm guessing not.

Anyway. Time to get back into solitary mode.

24/07/12

Following on from yesterday's musical potluck, I'm currently listening to metric's new album, hopefully in one go. Jsyk.

Well, I handed my cab resubs in. I don't think I made anything correcter. [See what I did there? No? Just me? Ok.] This means I will probably have to do several make-up assignments. Not so fun.
I've also managed to get off the rota for what I may as well start calling Football Friday. So not all bad I guess.

Status: still excited about NCL/ OYL.

Yeurgh. I have another headache. One of those pressure ones, where it feels like someone is stabbing me in the eyes. C'mon storm. Get to it.

In other news, my mother and I are attempting an experiment. Depending on the results I may then go and see some sort of doctor type person. All sounds a bit drastic doesn't it? It's not anything remotely interesting, I'm just sick of struggling so much with writing. Except it's not physical writing, more mental writing. Which is why I'm probably just stupid. I do feel foolish about the whole thing. Oh well.

Aack! Hound (grey) has just drunk my tea. Humph.

Can you clone me? I look like everyone you know now.

I stay up, to prove I can keep up with you, all night.

I'll shut up and carry on, a scream becomes a yawn.

Yeo.
I can't remember what I was on about the last time I was on here. Sorry if I repeat anything.

Today I've been attempting to do the corrections on my cab portfolio. They suck. Just in case you were in any doubt. It's even worse now that I've actually been advising... because you really don't ever have to do the stuff they ask you to for the course. So I'ma fail it probably. Oh well. Nothing like a waste of time.

In other mildly more exciting news, FWL AND I ARE GOING TO THE OLYMPICS*. Technically, it is possible that it could be a USA v GB quarter. Knowing my luck it won't be though. But still, excited. And I'll wear my USA shirt whatever. Unless it is GB. In which case I might get one of those and wear it. Maybe I could swap at half time? But I'd probably not be allowed to bring two shirts in. Cos it looks like they're funky about that.
I don't really get the very prohibitive rules re: what you can wear/bring in. I mean, ok, I get the 'no airhorns'. But I want to bring a teddy bear. Is that ok? It won't be branded as such.. Guess I'll find out.

So at the moment I'm doing something I haven't done in forever. I've just hit play on my entire itunes library (shuffled, obvs). I have a load of weird stuff on here, s'throwing up real random things. Plus a lot of tunes that make me feel 14. Oh to be 'angry' and full of 'angst' and to think 'political' thoughts again. When I was younger I thought I could fix the world. I suppose I still think that, I just know that nobody will listen, or I'd break it trying. Oh dear. B*witched just came on. Here endeth that train of thought. I'ma just quote lyrics at the end instead.

I'm well looking forward to hangin' with FWL again. I've missed her face. And I'll get to see Gremz0r for the first time in donkeys. NB. He won't actually be in a donkey. I hope.
Shenanigans should ensue. I need to get my summer's fill of shenanigans.
I still want to get a house, and have all my friends either a) in the house or b) nearby. I don't think many would agree to it, but I still think it'd be wicked to all be able to head to the pub/hangout at short notice.

Sigh, I need to get a life.

Right. I'ma finish this ramble.

Oh hell no, these vessels. Our heart swells up these vessels, our heart swells up these vessels which make us explode.

I'd swim across Lake Michigan, I'd sell my shoes. I'd give my body to be back again, in the rest of the room. To be alone, with you...

I'm made up of instincts, none of which are too keen.

I've got one friend laying across from me. I did not choose him, he did not choose me. We have no chance of recovery. Laying in hospital, joy and misery. Put out the fire boys, don't stop, don't stop. Put out the fire on us.

Can't think what lines you'd like me to sing or say. Not sure what subjects you want mentioned, so just pause and add your own intentions.. Right here.

19/07/12

D'you ever get tired for no reason? That's where I'm at right now. I have done nothing recently, yet I wake up exhausted [thanks T&S]. And I go to bed exhausted but can't sleep. It sucks. Then I have crazy active dreams. If only all the running about I do in my head would have a physical effect. I'd be stacked.
Last night, I was at a show jumping competition. I had the US goalkeeper on my team. My horse then proceeded to jump off roofs. I was doing the classy hanging-on-to-the-neck thing. Weird.
--------
So, that sporting competition which swings by every 4 years. I'm starting to become reasonably excited about it. Mostly because of my massive crush on the us women's football team. But whevs. I'd really like to also somehow use it as a chance to explain to my friends about horses.. like, the events and stuff.. but I don't think that's likely. Which is sorta a shame, seeing as I can be such a geek about it, and it was a fairly major part of my life before I met them. Sigh.
Y'know when you get those moments where you wonder why the hell you took the decisions you did? Having one now.
--------
Moving on..
I'm reading a story at the moment, and despite being slightly sceptical at the start [hello graphic and slightly scary sex scenes], I'm now hooked. AND I KNOW IT'S GOING TO STOP SOON. UNFINISHED. And it was being written in the 90s, so there is no chance of it ever being resolved. I hate stories like that. But they are always the addictive ones. Someone should really like, sort that.
--------
In other news:
I'm hoping to visit FWL soon. And hopefully hubbo L will visit me straight afters. I also have to remember to book flights to go to glasgow. That covers everyone who wants to see me. And within a month and a bit! So efficient, it almost makes up for the past year.
----------

So halfway through this post I accidentally knocked out my laptop's power cable. Which normally would be fine, but as I took out the battery to enable me to use the laptop without wanting to bash my brains out with it, buh-bye blog post. So long semi-literate thoughts on sports and sexism/gender issues. Oh well. They weren't interesting.
